
Let’s Talk Quartz Halogen Heating
Ever wonder why some heaters just hit differently? That’s the magic of our quartz halogen lamps. Instead of your typical resistive heater, we use a tungsten filament tucked inside a quartz tube and filled with a special halogen gas. Here’s why that matters: it stops the filament from evaporating too fast. That means we can crank up the heat way higher without the coil just giving up on you. The nitty-gritty on power When you’re picking a lamp, it all comes down to how wattage and voltage play together. If you go with a 2000W or 3000W unit, you’re packing a massive amount of energy into a tiny space. Depending on whether you’re running 230V or 400V, your heat profile is going to shift. High-voltage setups are great for longer tubes because they keep the current stable. But a word of warning: that much heat puts a lot of pressure on your reflectors. If they aren’t polished to a mirror shine, you’re basically throwing energy away—it just soaks into the machine frame instead of hitting your target. Materials and the “fit” We stick with high-purity quartz for the glass because it lets that shortwave IR slide right through. For some jobs, we add special coatings to protect the glass from chemical splashes or to tweak the heat spectrum. As for the connections, we usually go with R7s or Sk15. They’re standard, so they should slide right into most industrial sockets. More importantly, they fit tight. When your machine starts vibrating during a run, you don’t want your terminals arcing. Putting it to work You’ll see these lamps doing the heavy lifting in PET blowing machines or paint curing lines. The best part? These don’t waste time heating up the air around them. They shoot the heat directly into the material. It’s fast. Really fast. And it cuts your cycle times down significantly. Just keep an eye on your PID controllers. Since these lamps hit peak temperature almost instantly, your sensors need to be spot on. If they lag even a little, you’ll overshoot your temp and end up scorching your product. Not a great look.
